Biography

Thomas Højlund Christensen is a Professor at the Technical University of Denmark, specializing in Waste Technology Management. He holds a Master's degree in Solid Waste (1974) and a PhD in Water Chemistry (1980) from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA, in addition to a Dr.Agro in Soil Chemistry (1990) from the University of Copenhagen. His research focuses on waste management systems, emphasizing the use of life cycle assessment tools to develop the EASETECH and EASEWASTE models for addressing global waste management issues. He has significant experience in waste characterization, recycling, biological waste treatment, and landfill management. With over 60 master's students and 30 PhD graduates, he has contributed extensively to academia and has served on various committees related to waste management organizations and research bodies. Christensen is a co-founder and former Associate Editor of the journal Waste Management & Research and the author of the textbook 'Solid Waste Technology & Management' (Wiley, 2011). He is a member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences and actively engages in research areas aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
