Thomas Cleij is a Full Professor at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, where he has had a distinguished career in polymer science and technology. His research interests focus on polymers, nano(bio)technology, bio-electronics, and biosensors, particularly the design and preparation of advanced organic polymeric materials. Professor Cleij has pioneered works in molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for bio-analytical applications, as well as in organic polymeric photovoltaics, biomaterials, and synthetic organic chemistry. His expertise also extends to studying structure-property relationships in physical organic chemistry and developing novel synthetic techniques such as controlled polymerizations. He has held several academic leadership positions, including Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering since 2018 and earlier roles as Dean of Sciences and Programme Director of the Maastricht Science Programme. He was a Full Professor at Hasselt University in Belgium prior to returning to Maastricht University, and he has been actively involved in academia since his early career as a Graduate Research Assistant at Utrecht University.
