Biography

Thomas Cooper received a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto and a Master of Science in DrSc in Mechanical Engineering from ETH Zurich. Prior to joining the Mechanical Engineering faculty at the Lassonde School of Engineering, he was a postdoctoral associate with the NanoEngineering group at MIT. His research integrates the fields of thermal science, optics, and materials to create new systems that efficiently harness solar energy and convert it into useful forms such as electricity, heat, and fuels. He has been recognized with the ASME Solar Energy Graduate Student Award, ETH Medal, Hans Eggenberger Prize, and the Chorafas Prize for his work on low-cost solar energy technologies. He is also a recipient of the PGS-M and PGS-D Fellowships from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, as well as the Early Postdoc Mobility Fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation.
