Biography

Thomas F. Edgar holds the George T. Gladys H. Abell Endowed Chair in Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and is a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering. He received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Kansas and his Ph.D. from Princeton University. His academic work concentrates on process modeling, control optimization, with more than 200 articles and book chapters published. Edgar is also a co-author of notable textbooks including 'Optimization of Chemical Processes' (McGraw-Hill, 2001) and 'Process Dynamics and Control' (Wiley, 2010). His research interests include process control, modeling, optimization, energy systems, combined heat and power, fault detection, data analytics, energy policy, alternative renewable energy, and smart grid technologies.
