Thomas Flatt is a Professor of Evolutionary Biology at the University of Fribourg. His research interests primarily focus on the genomic basis of adaptation, population genetics, evolutionary life-history traits, and the trade-offs among fitness components. His current work investigates the role of balancing selection in chromosomal inversion polymorphisms and their adaptive significance. He obtained his M.Sc. in Organismal Biology/Zoology with a major in Population Biology at the University of Basel in 1999, followed by a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution from the University of Fribourg in 2004. Thomas has held various prestigious fellowships, including a postdoctoral fellowship at Brown University and a visiting professorship at the University of Münster. He has served as vice-head of the Department of Biology at the University of Fribourg and has been elected to the SNSF National Research Council. His research aims to fill gaps in understanding the adaptive nature of chromosomal inversions and their implications for evolutionary genetics.
