Biography

Thomas P. Gallanis is a Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago Law School, holding the Allison Dorothy Rouse Chair. He is an internationally renowned expert in trust, succession, and property law, with particular interests in comparative and cross-border aspects of these fields. He has received his BA summa cum laude in History from Yale, a JD from the University of Chicago, and both an LLM and PhD from Cambridge. Gallanis has been recognized for his expertise in English and European legal history, and is an elected member of the International Academy of Estate and Trust Law, the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and the American Law Institute. He has also served as a visiting fellow at Souls College, Oxford, and as a Mellon Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Currently, he serves as the Executive Director of the Uniform Law Commission’s Joint Editorial Board for Uniform Trust and Estate Acts, overseeing the uniform laws in the fields of trusts and succession. He is actively engaged in projects involving the edition of judicial notes by Sir Dudley Ryder, to be published by the Selden Society.
