Thomas Heldt joined the MIT faculty in 2013 as a core member of the Institute of Medical Engineering and Science (IMES) and holds the position of Professor in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He is also the Principal Investigator at MIT’s Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE) and directs the Integrative Neuromonitoring Critical Care Informatics Group within IMES RLE. Thomas began his academic journey in Germany, studying physics and medicine at Johannes Gutenberg-Universität, Mainz, before receiving his MS and MPhil degrees in Physics from Yale University. He completed his PhD in Medical Physics from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology in 2004. Following his education, he undertook postdoctoral training at MIT, co-founding and co-directing the Computational Physiology Clinical Inference Group at RLE. In addition to his role at MIT, he holds courtesy research appointments at Harvard Medical School, and several Boston-area hospitals focusing on various medical specialties.
