Biography

Thomas Hyde is a composer specializing in a wide variety of genres, including opera and choral music. His most significant work to date is the opera 'Man Stephen Ward' (2008), which was revived at the Nova Music Opera Cheltenham Festival in 2015 and recorded by Resonus Classics. Recent compositions include a string quartet (2010), a violin sonata (2014, with Jennifer Pike), and the 'Magnificat' (2017, commissioned by Concertgebouw Brugge Sixteen). His orchestral works, such as the 'Les Leisure - Comedy Overture' (commissioned by Lichfield Festival and BBC National Orchestra of Wales) and a Symphony (2018, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra), showcase his diverse musical talents. Currently, he holds a research fellowship at Worcester College and a part-time position in the Music Department at King’s College London. In 2017, he was awarded the title of Associate by the Royal Academy of Music. Hyde is also actively involved in charitable endeavors, serving on the advisory committee of the Missenden Festival and chairing the Lucille Graham Trust, which supports music education projects in Greater London. He is in the process of developing a new opera in collaboration with novelist Alexander McCall Smith.
