Biography

Thomas Wiben Jensen is an Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark. His research primarily explores the functions of metaphors as cognitive tools and their rhetorical means in communication. He studies how metaphor and embodiment shape emotional and cognitive experiences in contexts such as psychotherapy and public discourse surrounding gender and identity. His theoretical focus encompasses degrees of metaphoricity, the interaction between metaphor and metonymy, and multimodal communication. Additionally, he is a co-founder of MetNet Scandinavia, and is currently developing a project on images of fatherhood, examining metaphors and cultural narratives related to this theme. Jensen holds a Ph.D. in Cognition and Interaction from the University of Copenhagen, awarded in 2008. He has served as an examiner for Ph.D. dissertations at Aarhus University and the University of Oslo, and is an editor for a special issue on metonymy in the journal Metaphor and Social World. His diverse scholarly interests include metaphor theory, education, and social communication.
