Biography

Thomas H. Kolbe is a professor at the Technical University of Munich, specializing in Geoinformatics. He completed his studies in computer science at the University of Dortmund from 1988 to 1993, and went on to work as a research assistant at the Institute of Computer Science III at the University of Bonn and the Institute for Environmental Sciences at the University of Vechta until 1999, when he was awarded his doctoral degree. After his doctorate, he worked as a research assistant and senior research assistant at the Institute of Cartography and Geoinformation at the University of Bonn. He held a chair in the Department of Geoinformation Technology at TU Berlin from 2006 to 2012, and has served as president of the German Society for Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Geoinformation (DGPF). His research focuses on spatial, temporal, and semantic modeling, analysis, and visualization, particularly in relation to virtual 3D city landscape models, city system modeling, smart cities, and 3D geoinformation systems.
