Thomas Lardaro serves as the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Section Chief in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Yale School of Medicine and is the system medical director for the Office of Emergency Preparedness in the Yale New Haven Health System. He has been appointed chair of the national EMS Committee of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) for 2024. Previously, Dr. Lardaro served as the EMS medical director, overseeing the EMS response system and the 9-1-1 dispatch center in Indianapolis, the nation’s 15th largest metropolitan area. He was also appointed as an EMS Commissioner by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. Dr. Lardaro led a team that built one of the largest comprehensive regional EMS healthcare delivery entities in the Midwest, IU Health LifeLine, during his time there, growing the service to include 39 ambulances and five helicopters while handling 88,000 transport requests annually. He has received the IU Health Values Leadership Award for his contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and has been honored with the Indiana University Trustee Teaching Award and the Kevin G. Rodgers Excellence in Clinical Education Award. In addition to his academic role, Dr. Lardaro actively works as an emergency medicine physician and is dedicated to teaching and learning as part of compassionate care teams.
