Biography

Thomas Littlejohns is a Senior Epidemiologist at the University of Oxford's Medical Sciences Division. His primary research focus is on investigating risk factors for dementia, particularly those that can produce translatable findings for public health benefit. This includes identifying modifiable factors that may be targeted for dementia prevention. His research also addresses similar questions related to non-dementia outcomes, such as cancer and cardiovascular disease, both of which are common chronic diseases. To conduct this research, he primarily utilizes the UK Biobank dataset, a large population-based cohort that includes half a million participants, along with their diverse phenotypic and genetic data. Before joining the Translational Epidemiology Unit (TEU) in 2021, he worked as an epidemiologist with the Oxford Population Health-based UK Biobank scientific team from 2014 to 2021. He completed his PhD at the University of Exeter, where he focused on hormonal risk factors for late-onset dementia.
