Dr. Thomas Lyon

Biography

Thomas Lyon is a Dow Professor at the University of Michigan's School for Environment and Sustainability, where he also serves as the Faculty Director of the Erb Institute. His research interests encompass a broad range of topics including sustainable systems, climate and energy, water management, and the interplay between cities, mobility, and the built environment. Lyon's work often focuses on corporate environmental strategies and the role of environmental information disclosure in influencing industry practices. He has been actively involved in funded research initiatives, receiving significant grants from institutions like the Sloan Foundation and the Environmental Protection Agency to explore issues such as transportation impacts on air quality and the behaviors of millennial travelers. Lyon's academic background includes a PhD and MS in engineering and economic systems from Stanford University, as well as a BS in civil engineering from Princeton University. Through his teaching, he aims to advance understanding of voluntary environmental agreements and the regulatory landscape surrounding corporate environmental performance.
