Biography

Tom McCurdy holds the Bonham Chair in International Finance and is a Professor in the Finance Department at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, with a status-only cross-appointment in the Department of Economics. He founded the Financial Research Trading Lab in 1999, which was expanded and renamed BMO Financial Group Finance Research Trading Lab in 2013, thanks to funding from BMO. Tom has received several research and teaching awards and has been an invited keynote speaker at international conferences. He is an Associate Fellow at the CIRANO Research Institute in Montreal and serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Financial Econometrics. His recent research focuses on topics such as textual analysis linking jumps in stock returns to firm-specific news and probabilistic modeling of regime changes during the COVID-19 crisis. In addition to his research work, Tom has co-authored over fifty simulation-based learning cases used globally in universities and corporate environments. He teaches courses in MBA, Master of Finance, and Master of Financial Risk Management programs with a focus on quantitative modeling and decision-making.
