Dr. Thomas Nechyba

Biography

Professor Nechyba conducts research in the fields of public finance, fiscal federalism, and economics education. His studies focus on investigating the function of local governments and addressing public policy issues affecting disadvantaged families, alongside the economics of primary and secondary education. He has received funding for various projects, including 'An Empirical Investigation of Peer Effects in Schools and Household Responses to School Policy Changes.' Nechyba is involved in multiple roles at Duke University, including serving as the Associate Chair of Economics since 2020 and the Director of Ecoteach Economics since 2022. His dedication to fostering economic understanding is evident through his work at the Sanford School of Public Policy, where he is a Professor and has held the position of Bass Fellow since 2007. His academic contributions have significantly advanced the field of economics education.
