Biography

Thomas V. O'Halloran is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Northwestern University. He holds a B.S. from the University of Missouri (1979) and a Ph.D. from Columbia University (1985). His research focuses on regulatory biology and the chemistry of transition metal receptors involved in homeostasis and oxidative stress pathways. He is particularly interested in the intracellular chemistry of elements such as zinc, copper, and iron, and the mechanisms of nanoscale drug delivery for clinically important anticancer agents based on arsenic, molybdenum, and platinum. Throughout his career, O'Halloran has made significant contributions to our understanding of metalloregulatory proteins that govern metal-responsive gene expression and metallochaperone proteins that control intracellular trafficking pathways. His work is widely published in prestigious journals, addressing critical themes in bioinorganic chemistry and molecular biosciences.
