Biography

Dr. Thomas Perls is a Professor of Medicine in the Geriatrics Section at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. He is a leader in the field of human exceptional longevity, founding and directing the New England Centenarian Study, the largest study of centenarians and their families in the world. His research expertise includes epidemiology, genetics, and healthy aging, with a focus on mechanisms that contribute to exceptional longevity. Dr. Perls has published pivotal findings related to cognitive function in centenarians, the genetic variants associated with aging, and resistance to Alzheimer’s disease in centenarians. He has also contributed significantly to the academic community through mentorship, teaching, and serving as an educator within the Graduate Medical Sciences at Boston University.
