Biography

Thomas Pink completed undergraduate degrees in history and philosophy at Cambridge, and worked in the field of rational choice theory for his PhD in philosophy. He spent four years as a merchant banker at Kleinwort Benson in London and the United States before returning to academia as a research fellow at Churchill College, Cambridge, in 1990. After lecturing for several years at the University of Sheffield, he joined King’s College London in 1996. Although he ceased teaching in 2022, he remains active in research and publication, and continues to give lectures and seminars in London, Oxford, Harvard, Berkeley, and Notre Dame. His research interests include philosophy of mind, ethics, political philosophy, rational choice theory, and medieval and early modern philosophy. Pink’s works examine ethics, free will, and metaphysics, particularly the power of causation. He is the author of several significant publications in his fields, including 'Psychology Freedom' and various volumes on ethics and action. As an editor, he contributes to academic discussions on liberty and necessity, and engages with students interested in exploring these topics further.
