Biography

Thomas G. Plante, Ph.D., ABPP is an Emeritus Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine. He also serves as the Augustin Cardinal Bea, S.J. University Professor in psychology, courtesy religious studies, and the Jesuit School of Theology at the Graduate Theological Union, where he directs the Applied Spirituality Institute at Santa Clara University. He has held significant leadership positions, including vice-chair of the National Review Board for the Protection of Children and Youth for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and past-president of the Society for Psychology and Religion Spirituality (Division 36) of the American Psychological Association (APA). Dr. Plante has published 29 books and over 275 scholarly articles and book chapters, with notable works including 'Spiritually Informed Therapy' and 'Living Ethically in an Unethical World'. He is also the editor of the APA journal 'Spirituality in Clinical Practice'. Dr. Plante teaches courses in psychopathology, health psychology, and professional ethics, while maintaining a private clinical practice as a licensed psychologist in Menlo Park, CA.
