Biography

Thomas Plante is the Augustin Cardinal Bea, S.J. University Professor at Santa Clara University in the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Psychology. He is also an Adjunct Clinical Professor in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine. Plante has authored 29 books, including titles such as 'Living Ethically in an Unethical World' and 'Spiritually Informed Therapy'. In addition to his extensive publications, he maintains a private clinical practice as a licensed psychologist. His research interests include applied spirituality and health outcomes, clerical abuse prevention, and psychological screening for Catholic and Episcopal clergy. Plante has published over 275 journal articles and book chapters and has been featured in major national media outlets. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Brown University, and both a Master’s and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Kansas. He completed a clinical internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University. Throughout his career, Plante has actively contributed to the field of psychology, serving as a co-editor for the 'Integratus: Journal of Catholic Psychotherapy Association' and participating in various roles within the American Psychological Association, including Council Representative from 2016 to 2021.
