Biography

Tom Reynolds is a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering at the University of Edinburgh, having joined the institution in June 2017. His academic career includes a PhD from the University of Bath, obtained in 2013, where he specialized in the BRE Centre for Innovative Construction Materials. Prior to his current role, Tom worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Cambridge on the Leverhulme Trust-sponsored Natural Material Innovation project. His research focuses on the use of wood and bamboo in structures, exploring aspects such as connection performance and stiffness of dowel-type timber connections. He is also interested in structural sensing and dynamics, aiming to equip designers with the necessary tools to integrate sensors in structures to measure everyday loads.
