Dr. Thomas Schneider

Biography

Thomas Schneider is a distinguished professor specializing in Egyptology and Near Eastern Studies. He has pursued his academic credentials at the University of Zurich, University of Basel, and the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris, where he earned his Lizentiat in 1990, doctorate in 1996, and Habilitation in 1999. Before joining the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2007, Schneider held a position as a lecturer in Egyptology at the University of Zurich between 2000 and 2003, followed by a role as Junior Research Professor funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation at the University of Basel from 2001 to 2005. He also served as a professor and chair in Egyptology at the University of Wales, Swansea, from 2005 to 2008. Schneider has been active in academia, holding visiting professorships at esteemed institutions such as the University of Vienna and Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His teaching and research focus on Egyptian history, cultural relations in the ancient Near East, and the Hebrew Bible. He has contributed extensively to scholarly literature, including serving as the founding editor of the 'Journal of Egyptian History' and holding editorial positions in various respected journals. Currently, he is the Chief Executive of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities and has been involved in numerous international academic collaborations.
