Dr. Thomas Seifert

Biography

Thomas Seifert is the Chair of Forest Growth Dendroecology at the University of Freiburg. His research primarily focuses on forest growth, sustainable management of forest resources, and the development of quantitative methods for assessing, analyzing, and predicting tree growth. He investigates aspects of forest dynamics and the impact of global change on forest ecosystems, with an emphasis on utilizing forests as carbon stores and managing natural resources effectively. Seifert's teaching and research are closely intertwined, providing students with a solid education in these crucial areas. His involvement with the Future Forests initiative aims to address socio-ecological systems and develop sustainable transformation strategies in response to changing human demands on nature due to societal changes. As the Principal Investigator for various projects, he is actively engaged in studying and designing adaptable forest systems to meet the challenges posed by climate change and ecosystem service provision.
