Biography

Thomas Söderqvist has an undergraduate academic background in zoology, chemistry, and paleontology, and pursued postgraduate work in political sociology, philosophy, and the history of science. He earned his PhD in theory of science at the University of Gothenburg in 1986 under the supervision of Aant Elzinga. He worked as a senior lecturer at the University of Roskilde, where he taught history and philosophy of science and science studies. He has been a research professor in science studies and joined the University of Copenhagen in 1999 as a professor of the history of medicine in the Department of Public Health. He has led the Medical Museion, overseeing its research, teaching, exhibitions, collections, and outreach since its name change in 2004. His academic work focuses on sociology of knowledge, history of 20th-century ecology and immunology, historiography, and scientific biography, while also producing popular writings and curating exhibitions. Currently, he seeks to understand how medical museums can contribute to critically assessing the present and future of medical science and technology, exploring their place within contemporary cultural and political arenas.
