Biography

Thomas Szucs is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Medicine and the Director of the Institute of Pharmaceutical Medicine at the University of Basel. He also serves as a part-time lecturer in Medical Economics at the University of Zurich and is an honorary professor at the University of Peking Health Science Center. Szucs has extensive experience in the field of pharmaceutical economics and epidemiology, having previously held the position of Chief Medical Officer at Hirslanden Holding, Switzerland's largest private hospital chain. He led the Department of Medical Economics at a joint venture between the University Hospital Zurich and the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine of the University of Zurich from 1998 to 2001. Additionally, he was the head researcher and founder of the Center of Pharmacoeconomics at the University of Milan and led a working group in Clinical Economics at the University of Munich. Szucs has held senior consultancy positions at Arthur D. Little and served as the head of the Department of Health Economics at F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. He is board certified in Pharmaceutical Medicine, Prevention, and Public Health, and has published over 300 articles and book chapters. His academic qualifications include multiple degrees from prestigious institutions such as the University of Basel and Harvard University, and he has been recognized as one of Switzerland's top influential economists in 2016.
