Professor Dr. Thomas Tenkate

Biography

Thomas Tenkate was an Associate Professor at the School of Occupational and Public Health at Toronto Metropolitan University. With a background in environmental health, he dedicated his career to understanding and managing health risks associated with occupational exposures, particularly to ultraviolet radiation and chemicals. His research interests included risk assessment, professional ethics, and public health strategies for worker safety. Tenkate served as the director of the School of Occupational and Public Health from 2011 to 2020 and intermittently held leadership roles, including as interim director of the School of Early Childhood Studies. He contributed to various research projects on health risks and hazard assessments, collaborating with provincial government and health organizations. Tenkate was active in professional associations and held notable positions including national president of Environmental Health Australia from 2009 to 2011. His work and research significantly impacted the field of public health and occupational safety, earning him several awards for excellence and service in the community.
