Thomas Tran received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo in June 2004, where he was awarded the Governor General's Gold Medal, presented to the top PhD graduate. He completed a double major in Mathematics and Computer Science at Brandon University, graduating with Great Distinction in 1999 and receiving the Governor General's Silver Medal. He commenced his graduate studies at the Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo in September 1999, entering the PhD program in January 2000. His graduate years included receiving scholarships from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the University of Waterloo's Distinguished Teaching Assistantship Award. He held a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Waterloo from 2003-2004. Since joining the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Ottawa in 2004, he has focused on various areas within Computer Science, supervising 27 graduate students and publishing over 80 refereed papers. He is a member of several professional organizations including the Canadian Artificial Intelligence Association and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
