Biography

Thomas W. White is a distinguished lecturer at Columbia Law School, having served as a retired partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP from 1979 to 2017. His practice focused on corporate, securities, and bankruptcy law, with a particular emphasis on corporate governance and disclosure. During his tenure as General Counsel at WilmerHale from 2009 to 2017, he advised numerous Fortune 100, mid-cap, and smaller companies on key issues related to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, internal control over financial reporting, and auditor independence among others. Tom has provided legal counsel to management and boards on complex corporate law, securities, and accounting matters, and has experience representing international accounting firms on regulatory issues. He has served as a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council (FASAC) and co-chaired the National Conference of Lawyers and CPAs. In addition to his extensive legal practice, Tom has taught classes on “Accounting for Lawyers” to female law students in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He graduated from Columbia Law School in 1978 and has held editorial roles in the Columbia Law Review.
