Dr. Thorsten Hesjedal

Biography

Professor Thorsten Hesjedal is a leading expert in Condensed Matter Physics with extensive experience in the field of quantum materials. He graduated with a Dr. rer. nat. degree in Physics from Humboldt University Berlin, Germany. Prior to his current position at the University of Oxford, he served as an Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, and held visiting positions at Stanford University and the University of California, Santa Barbara. His research facilities are located at the Clarendon Laboratory and the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, with cross-appointments at ISIS and the STFC Diamond Light Source. Professor Hesjedal's research focuses on the growth of topological and/or magnetic materials from thin films and nanostructures using techniques such as molecular beam epitaxy, sputtering, and chemical vapor deposition. His work also emphasizes the structural, magnetic, and electrical characterization of these materials, along with exploratory device studies.
