Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Tiago Costa. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Tiago Costa (S'10-M'15) was born in Torres Vedras, Portugal, in 1985. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electronic Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, Portugal, in 2006 and 2008, respectively. He earned his Ph.D. (cum laude) in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2014. His PhD research was conducted at the signal processing group INESC-ID, Lisbon, Portugal. In 2015, he joined the Bioelectronic Systems Laboratory at Columbia University, USA, as a postdoctoral research scientist. In October 2019, he became an Associate Professor in the Bioelectronics section at Delft University of Technology, Netherlands, where he leads the Microengineering Therapeutic Ultrasound (MITUS) lab. The lab comprises a team of engineers focused on developing implantable and wearable therapeutic ultrasound technologies, aiming to create new methods and techniques for minimizing the size and power consumption of therapeutic ultrasound devices while augmenting their capabilities for precise beam focusing and steering through acoustic holography. His work encompasses analog mixed-signal integrated electronics, micro and nanofabrication in a cleanroom environment, and acoustic physics. Prototypes have been validated in benchtop and in vitro systems, as well as in pre-clinical models in humans.
Requirements apply generally across engineering and science master programs. Specific tracks like Architecture require a digital portfolio.
