Biography

Tian Zhao is a BHF Clinical Lecturer in Cardiovascular Medicine, specializing in interventional cardiology. His main research interests focus on therapeutically targeting inflammation in atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction. During his academic journey, he completed an MPhil in Translation Medicine and Therapeutics, followed by a PhD under the supervision of Professor Ziad Mallat. His doctoral research involved early phase clinical trials on immuno-modulation for patients with myocardial infarction, specifically targeting the adaptive immune system through low-dose interleukin-2 and rituximab. Currently, he is advancing therapies in phase 2b studies and is engaged in ongoing research interests in translational experimental medicine trials aimed at immuno-modulation of cardiovascular diseases. In addition to his research, Zhao was an invited speaker at the Royal Papworth Annual 'Patient Celebration Research' day in 2020, addressing the topic of clinical immunology and inflammation.
