Biography

Tian Zhong's research focuses on developing enabling nanophotonic molecular technologies to build an efficient, global-scale Quantum Internet. Over the past decade, his work has contributed significant progress toward nanoscale quantum network nodes and high-throughput quantum communication links interconnecting distant nodes. His efforts in atomic-molecular physics and photonics converge on a vision to advance state-of-the-art quantum information technologies, bringing the Quantum Internet one step closer to reality. Zhong pioneered the field of rare-earth quantum nanophotonics, leveraging modern photonic technologies to develop a versatile rare-earth nanophotonic platform enabling scalable quantum optical networks. He completed his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2013, and holds a Master of Science from MIT in 2009, as well as completing his undergraduate studies at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore in 2007. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Quantum Information and Matter and the Department of Applied Physics and Material Science at the California Institute of Technology.
