Dr. Tianna Bruno

Biography

Tianna Bruno is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research focuses on the intersections of Black geographies, critical environmental justice, and political ecology. She aims to foreground Black life and the sense of place within environments affected by present-day environmental injustices. Bruno's work highlights the mutual experiences of degradation and survival among subaltern communities in relation to ecological systems, particularly emphasizing the significance of trees within Black geographies and critical physical geography. Her current research extends into Texas, where she explores sites of the Black diaspora. Her findings have been published in prestigious academic journals including Local Environment, Professional Geographer, and Annals of the American Association of Geographers.
