Biography

Tianyu Guan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at York University. He graduated with a PhD in Statistics from Simon Fraser University in 2020, where he was supervised by Dr. Jiguo Cao. Before obtaining his doctorate, he earned his MSc in Actuarial Science from Simon Fraser University in 2014 and completed his BSc in Statistics at Jilin University in 2011. His research interests focus on sports analytics, machine learning, functional data analysis, and nonparametric statistics. In addition to his academic pursuits, he enjoys watching various sports including basketball, soccer, baseball, skating, snooker, and poker, as well as reading, hiking, and traveling.
