Tianyu Zhu holds a Ph.D. in Reproductive Medicine from the State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Medicine at Nanjing Medical University, China. His doctoral research focused on the molecular mechanisms of sperm flagella formation. From 2021 to 2023, he continued working in the State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Medicine as a Research Fellow. In 2023, he trained as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Massachusetts General Hospital, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, where he developed a strong interest in cilia function and gained expertise in gene editing. He explored the genetic functions of cilia in zebrafish embryonic left-right determination by generating CRISPR-Cas9 knockout mutants. Tianyu joined Jean-Ju Chung's lab at Yale in October 2024, where he focuses on exploring the molecular structural adaptations of CatSper ion channel complexes associated with sperm motility and fertility in mammals.
