Dr. Tibor Palfai

Biography

Tibor P. Palfai is a professor in the field of Clinical Psychology with a comprehensive academic background including a PhD from Yale University. He has completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies at Brown University. His primary research interests focus on understanding cognitive-motivational processes that underpin health risk behaviors, such as hazardous drinking, substance use, and risky sexual decisions. Dr. Palfai has conducted extensive research on web and mobile-based interventions aimed at reducing hazardous drinking and substance use. He has also explored laboratory studies examining the effects of alcohol on self-control and decision-making processes related to health risk behaviors. Additionally, he is involved in screening and brief interventions to modify HIV-risk factors, as well as the development of integrated behavioral interventions for patients in medical settings who are dealing with co-occurring conditions like chronic pain and heavy drinking.
