Dr. Tichianaa Armah

Biography

Tichianaa Armah, a native of Bronx, NY, graduated from Swarthmore College and obtained a Medical Degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She pursued her psychiatry residency at Yale, where she was co-president of the Psychiatric Residents Association and served as Chief Resident at the Hispanic Clinic of the Connecticut Mental Health Center. In recent years, Dr. Armah held positions including Chief Psychiatry Officer and Vice President of Behavioral Health at Community Health Center, Inc., and is a senior faculty member at the Weitzman Institute, Moses Weitzman Healthcare System. In 2021, she was recognized as a U.S. Government Distinguished 400 awardee and received the American Psychiatric Association's Excellence in Teaching Residents award for the academic year 2022-2023. Her primary academic interest focuses on cultural humility and mental healthcare disparities. Dr. Armah is committed to increasing access to quality care for vulnerable populations and has been a co-principal investigator on HRSA-funded grants aimed at optimizing virtual care. She advocates for telehealth solutions and has played a significant role in the training of future mental health care providers. Her work reflects a dedication to community engagement and supporting underrepresented minorities in the mental health field.
