Dr. Tiffany Trent

Biography

Tiffany Trent is a theatre director and scholar specializing in applied theatre, youth engagement, and practical theology. She serves as Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre and Drama at the University of Michigan. Prior to her current role, she held positions including Chair and Associate Professor at Middle Tennessee State University and interim director of performance programs at the University of Chicago, where she taught theatre performance studies for sixteen years. Her work in Chicago emphasizes new play development, collaborating with organizations such as MPAACT, Chicago Dramatists, and others. Trent is also actively involved in teaching artist residencies and community engagement initiatives. Her scholarship focuses on cultural representation in theatre, particularly within African American narratives for young audiences, and she has co-edited works highlighting these themes. Recent directing projects include 'Anon(ymous)' and 'Ever Glades'. Trent has contributed poetic work to the Journal of American Folklore and has extensive experience facilitating drama in faith-based settings.
