Biography

Dr. Tiina Kauppinen is a highly respected researcher in the field of neuroscience, currently serving as an associate professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of Manitoba. She is also a principal investigator in the Neuroscience Research Program at the Kleysen Institute for Advanced Medicine and a researcher at the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba. She earned her doctoral degree in biotechnology and molecular neuroscience from the University of Kuopio, now known as the University of Eastern Finland. Her postdoctoral training was completed at the University of California, San Francisco, where she later served as an adjunct assistant professor. Dr. Kauppinen's research focuses on the role of microglia in brain function and disease, investigating their influence on neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration, and aims to identify mechanisms that regulate microglial responses to promote brain health. Her work is supported by several organizations, including the Alzheimer Society and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
