Dr. Tiina Nypelö

Biography

Tiina Nypelö is an Associate Professor in Bio-based Materials at Chalmers University, where she is also affiliated with the Wallenberg Wood Science Center. She completed her Doctorate in Forest Products Technology at Aalto University, Finland, in 2012, and holds a Master of Science degree in Textile Technology with a focus on Fiber Materials Science from Tampere University of Technology, Finland, obtained in 2007. Her research primarily focuses on the fundamental understanding of liquid-rich states such as gels, emulsions, dispersions, solutions, and colloids in solid organizations. By merging her expertise in forest products technology with materials science, she actively contributes to the development of sustainable materials engineering, leveraging renewable resources. Her research emphasizes the study of cellulose, hemicelluloses, and lignins, particularly regarding surface, interface, and intermolecular interactions. Additionally, Nypelö serves as the Director of the graduate school in Materials Science, where she oversees educational initiatives and strategies. She has also held an interim position as Vice President of Education in the European Polysaccharide Network of Excellence, enhancing collaboration across academic platforms in materials science.
