Dr. Tim Barlott

Biography

Tim Barlott is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta, specializing in Occupational Therapy. He has a diverse educational background with a PhD in Sociology from the University of Queensland, focusing on community mental health and allyship. Tim's research is centered around the socio-political aspects of health and human services, aiming to bridge theory and practice to enhance social inclusion for marginalized populations. His practical experience spans over 20 years in various roles, including occupational therapist, addictions counselor, and youth worker in Canada and Australia. Tim is committed to participatory research, fostering collaborative relationships with community partners to co-create research initiatives. His current projects include exploring relational care ethics and developing socio-political praxis within occupational therapy. Tim has received multiple grants for his research endeavors and has numerous publications in distinguished journals across the fields of sociology, occupational science, and rehabilitation. He actively accepts new graduate students, mentoring the next generation of scholars in occupational therapy and health services.
