Biography

Tim Brown is a Professor and Interim Director of the Engineering Public Policy Department at Carnegie Mellon University. He has previously held the position of professor and director at the Interdisciplinary Telecommunications Program at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Brown received his B.S. in Physics from Pennsylvania State University and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology. He has worked with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Bell Communications Research. His research interests include adaptive network control, machine learning, and wireless communication systems. Currently, he is involved in research funded by the Mastercard Foundation and has received prestigious awards such as the NSF CAREER Award and the GWEC Wireless Educator of the Year Award. He is actively engaged in educational initiatives that bridge computational neuroscience with machine learning, particularly in the African continent, through his work with CMU-Africa and TReND Africa.
