Biography

Tim Dwyer received his PhD in 2005 from the University of Sydney with the thesis titled "Two Half Dimensional Visualisation Relational Networks." He was a post-doctoral Research Fellow at Monash University from 2005 to 2008 and served as a Visiting Researcher at Microsoft Research, USA from 2008 to 2009. Between 2009 and 2012, Dwyer worked as a Senior Software Development Engineer in the Visual Studio product group at Microsoft, notably shipping the Code Map software for dependency visualization included in Visual Studio 2012. In late 2012, he returned to Monash University as a Larkins Fellow to lead the Immersive Analytics Lab. His teaching commitments include serving as Chief Examiner for several units at the Faculty of IT, such as FIT2102 - Programming Paradigms, FIT3020 - Information Visualisation, FIT2079 - Data Visualisation, and FIT2071 - Foundations of C++. Dwyer's research interests focus on Information Visualization and Visual Analytics, particularly the development of interactive visual interfaces for exploring and communicating complex data. He believes network visualization plays a crucial role in helping users understand intricate, interrelated data and is interested in innovative representations of data leveraging new display technologies, including augmented and virtual reality.
