Biography

Tim Hicks studies a range of issues in comparative politics, public policy, and comparative political economy, focusing on industrialised democracies. He served as the department’s Director of Education from 2022 to 2025, with responsibilities covering various aspects of the educational student experience, including developing new taught programmes and overseeing quality assurance processes. He has also been the Deputy Director of Education with particular responsibility for Admissions and Student Engagement. Hicks arrived at University College London in 2014, taking on the role of founding Programme Director for the BSc Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE). Before his time at UCL, he worked as an Ussher Assistant Professor in Political Economy at Trinity College, Dublin from January 2011 to June 2014. Prior to that, he was a doctoral student in Politics at Nuffield College, Oxford.
