Biography

Tim Horeman is an associate professor in Sustainable Surgery & Translational Technology and Academic Portfolio Director for Medical Technology at Delft University of Technology. He has extensive experience developing technologies to assess surgical skills and the functioning of surgical instruments based on interaction force, instrument movement, and other data sources. Recently, Tim has been leading the development of a new generation of sustainable surgical instruments for advanced robotic surgery, aimed at enhancing access in less affluent regions. Tim, a prominent serial MedTech entrepreneur with a focused approach on surgical instruments, implants, and training systems, is a principal investigator and co-founder of several international startups, including GreenCycl, MediShield, ForceSense, Surge-on Medical, and SuperSeton, bringing multiple surgical innovations to market. He is (co)author of over 70 journal publications, inventor of 18 patents, and principal investigator of several international research projects focusing on robotic surgery, surgical instruments, sustainable surgery, SMART implants, global tools, and minimally invasive surgery. Tim received the Dutch Engineer of the Year award in 2016 for his contributions to healthcare, and has been elected to the Tech Committee of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery in both 2018 and 2022. His accolades include multiple research grants and innovation awards in the field of medical technology.
