Dr. Tim Lockley

Biography

Tim Lockley is a Professor of History at the University of Warwick. He has been a part of the Warwick faculty since 1996 and has progressed through various academic ranks including Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Reader. His primary research focuses on social history, particularly examining the colonial antebellum South and the greater Caribbean. Lockley has published widely on the themes of slavery, class, poverty, and medical history. Among his notable publications are 'Military Medicine: Making Race' and works that delve into the relationships between non-slaveholding whites and enslaved African Americans. He has also co-edited significant volumes that contribute to the understanding of slavery in colonial contexts. Lockley actively engages with professional organizations such as the European Early American Studies Association and the British Group of Early American History. His recent research interests include the study of cricket and classical music in historical contexts, showcasing his diverse academic pursuits. Lockley has supervised numerous PhD and MA students on topics related to disability, masculinity, and antebellum southern history.
