Tim Middleton's research focuses on the intersections of theology, religion, and science as they relate to nature and the environment. Specifically, he is interested in religious approaches to the contemporary ecological crisis, particularly through the lens of Christian ecotheology. His recent work draws on trauma theology to explore the category of trauma in relation to nonhuman suffering within the contexts of mass extinction and catastrophic climate change. Additionally, he is currently engaged in a project examining the interaction between religious views and long-term geological understandings of deep time. Tim has served as an honorary Research Fellow at the William Temple Foundation and is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Prior to joining Regent’s Park College, he taught at St Anne’s College, Oxford, the University of Roehampton, and Ripon College Cuddesdon. He has also held a position as a Junior Research Fellow in Religion and Frontier Challenges at Pembroke College, Oxford. Tim holds doctorates in Theology and Earth Sciences from the University of Oxford.
