Tim’s research focuses on geomorphology of rivers and wetlands, particularly in dry landscapes. His work spans across Australia, including the Murray-Darling Basin, as well as regions in Africa and the USA. Tim seeks to understand the patterns and processes of fluvial landforms, sediment dynamics, and the interactions between people and rivers/wetlands in the context of long-term landscape evolution and environmental change. He collaborates with colleagues nationally and internationally, being a key member of the Wetlands in Drylands Research Network and the Australian and New Zealand Geomorphology Group. Tim has an international reputation in fluvial geomorphology and has coordinated various technical training programs on soil erosion and sediment transport techniques. He recently led a cooperative project assessing agro-contaminants to improve water quality. Tim has also served as a senior environmental scientist for the NSW government, where he linked research with practical decision-making in environmental management. His academic mentorship includes supervising over 30 higher degree research students, guiding master’s and PhD candidates in their research projects.
