Dr. Tim Sercombe

Biography

Tim Sercombe is a prominent academic in the field of Materials Engineering, focusing on additive manufacturing and 3D printing technologies. He graduated with a PhD from the University of Queensland in 1998 and subsequently spent years as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Birmingham, UK, under the supervision of Professor Michael Loretto. During his time there, he developed a variety of new materials capable of being processed through Selective Laser Sintering, achieving high density post-sintering. Returning to the University of Queensland in 2001, he played a critical role in creating novel manufacturing methods for aluminum components utilized in additive manufacturing technologies, with his work published in prestigious journals such as Science. In 2006, he transitioned to the University of Western Australia, where he has since been pioneering the development of new materials for Selective Laser Melting and engaging in diverse projects spanning various aspects of 3D printing. His current research extends across multiple projects and collaborations, contributing significantly to advancements in the field.
