Tim Stowell is a Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus in the Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Los Angeles. He received his Ph.D. in 1981 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research interests primarily focus on the syntactic structure and its relation to semantic interpretation. Specifically, he is concerned with syntax's connection to argument structure and predication, as well as the reflection of syntactic structure in clauses and subclausal constituents. In more recent work, Professor Stowell has investigated issues in syntax related to tense, logic, and temporal interpretation, alongside the syntax of quantifiers and determiners, and the principles governing scope assignment and reference.
